In this episode Sharn and Andy discuss Book NFTs and the various emerging Book NFT Marketplaces.
They start off by outlining what an NFT book is and how it is different from a digital book, then talk about what NFT books currently exist today.
Sharn and Andy then move on to a discussion of some of the main emerging NFT Book marketplaces:
NFT Book Sites:
Book.io: https://book.io/
Opensea: https://opensea.io/
Creatokia: https://www.creatokia.com/en/s/homepage
Publica: https://publica.com/
Book coin: First to mint a NYT bestseller https://www.bookcoin.com/
Andy then explains what owning an NFT book mean using the example from Book.io regarding The Subtle Art of not giving an F# by Mark Manson (not James Nestor as Andy guessed during the podcast, haha!): https://help.bookcoin.com/collection-faqs/keFW6X286EYG31Su72oWQt/owning-a-subtle-art-nft/9onKDodMn6Dz7Rp1GEx1uX
From the Book.io example, owning a book NFT means 4 things…
It means the right to collect & display.
It means creative commons rights.
It means the right to trade.
It means exclusive access.
Owning a book NFT DOES NOT mean having Copyright Ownership. NFT Ownership ≠ Copyright Ownership.
Sharn and Andy then discuss smart contracts and how NFT books with smart contracts can benefit authors. They also then provide an overview of the benefits that Book.io are promoting to authors on their website.
Sharn and Andy then wrap it up with a discussion of their thoughts on NFT books, including the current state of the market, whether they think NFT books are relevant, and what they think the future of NFT books might be.
As promised in the episode, this is a link to the article Sharn found saying Ingram is backing the Book.io marketplace: https://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/industry-news/bookselling/article/90625-ingram-backs-book-io-a-nft-book-marketplace.html
