It’s our Christmas Episode!
In our last podcast for 2022 we take some time to look back on what we have achieved at Invoke Creations this year, then also talk about some of our favourite podcasts, books, audiobooks, movies and tv shows of 2022.
It’s been a big year for us at Invoke Creations. Even though we started our Facebook page and website back in 2021, this year in 2022 we started:
This podcast and the publication of its show notes.
Our YouTube Channel to showcase our tunes.
Instagram page following Andy’s art.
Our Bards Lost in the Metaverse twitter account was created.
Releasing our books to the world.
It’s been a wild and exciting year and we can’t wait to accomplish even more in 2023.
We don’t just like creating though as we are also big consumers of content, so we have listed below Sharn and Andy’s favourite podcasts, books, audiobooks, movies and tv shows of 2022.
Books
How many and what did we read this year?
Andy: It was the year of being introduced to Manga! I started by wanting to read what my kids were reading, but then I may have got addicted.
I read the following series:
Demon Slayer 25 books;
Tokyo Ghoul and Tokyo Ghoul Re: 30 books;
Food Wars: 4 books;
Death Note: 4 books 8 to go;
Akira: 6 books;
Ghost in the Shell: 12 + 2 actual books
That's a total of approx 20,000 pages of Manga!
Next year i still have to read:
My Hero Academia + Vigilantes,
Haikyu,
Classroom Assisnation,
Blame,
Jujutsu Kaisen,
Spy X Family,
Chainsaw Man,
Doctor Stone,
Sakomoto Days,
Mob Psycho 100,
One Punch Man
Pick of the bunch: Akira
Sharn: I read every night and like to jump a bit between genres. This year I’ve read the below:
Inkheart by Cornelia Funke
Inkspell by Cornelia Funke
Inkdeath (currently reading)
The Stone Sky by N.K. Jemisin (3rd in The Fifth Season trilogy)
The Galaxy, and the Ground Within by Becky Chambers (last in the 4 book Wayfarer series)
The Centauri Survivors by Andrew J Chamberlain

Couple of Canberra Authors/friends:
A Lie of Dessert Red by R.K. Hart (Second in her Death Dreamer series - find on Amazon https://www.amazon.com.au/R-K-Hart/e/B08B5RQ368/ref=dp_byline_cont_pop_ebooks_1)
Pegasus by Josh Francis (first in the Zach Kryton series - find on Amazon https://www.amazon.com.au/Josh-Francis/e/B07VFC73ZX/ref=dp_byline_cont_pop_ebooks_1)
Pick of the bunch: I hate picking favourites, but when forced I’ll say The Galaxy, and the Ground Within by Becky Chambers
Audio Books
Andy: I listened to a total of 34 Audio books. 99.9% of these are professional development/business/self help/biography type books. With an average of about 8 hrs per book. so about 280 hrs of listening ,I listen while walking the dog and working out driving etc)
Best one: Will by Will Smith. I listened to this right before he slapped Chris Rock so I wasn't tainted by that, but I still recommend it. Maybe even more so now.
Next year I plan to mix in some more Fiction. I want to dive into the Warhammer Universe.
Sharn: I have recently been binging a lot of fiction audiobooks after initially listening to more non-fiction. The books I’ve listened to are:
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
Skyward by Brendan Sanderson
Starsight by Brendan Sanderson
Cytonic by Brendan Sanderson
The Metaverse Handbook - Innovating for the Internet’s Next Tectonic Shift by QuHarrison Terry and Scott “DJ Skee” Keeney
Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain 101 - From Bitcoin to NFTs by Goffredo Righi Schwammer
Neverwhere - Neil Gaiman
Artemis - Andy Weir
Priory of the Orange Tree - Samantha Shannon (currently listening to this)
Pick of the bunch: I will panic pick The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
Next on list
Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson (book that first used the term metaverse)
Podcasts
Andy: I actually haven't listened to many podcasts this year (besides ours) maybe 10-15 episodes all up! Some of the highlights were:
ImPaulsive
Jocko Podcast
Diary of a CEO
Sharn: I have some creative focused podcasts I listen to regularly and also dip in and out of shows based on their topics. Below are some of the podcasts I’ve listened to this year:
The Creative Penn
The Self Publishing Show
Cypto Curious
UNBiased - Canberra friend
Creative Writer’s Toolbelt
She’s on the Money
The Business Bible
Grammar Girl
Six Figure Authors
TV and Movies
We are not a review podcast but we are storytellers so do appreciate some good TV and Movies:
Andy:
TV: With lots of Manga came watching lots of Anime. I think my favourite anime series to watch has been either Mob Psycho 100 or Chainsaw Man, noting that Chainsaw Man comes in close as it only just came out and I don't have a full season. That being said, it has made me do the 22 Jump street run around my house several times with excitement.
Movie: I have been pretty upset with movies recently as I haven't seen anything that good. Nothing has made me want to go to the cinemas to watch. But what was quite a nice surprise was Prey and I'll give Violent Night an honourable mention.
Sharn: I consume quite a lot. Some of the highlights I’ve seen this year are:
TV: Stranger Things, Rings of Power, Sandman, Schitt’s Creek, Derry Girls, After Life, Friends, Bridgerton, The Crown, Only Murders in the Building, Sanditon, Locke and Key.
Movie: Agree with Prey. Dune. Enola Holmes 2. Don’t Look Up, and a huge number of kids movies. Watched the new Persuasion movie, and rewatched both the 2007 version (with Sally Hawkins and Rupert Penry-Jones, and the 1995 version with Amanda Root and Ciran Hinds) - I have thoughts.
Favourite Christmas movie
Andy: Elf or Home Alone
Sharn: The Grinch (but I also have a soft spot for cheesy romantic xmas movies and all the classics of course!)
Favourite Christmas Song
Andy: Any Dean Martin Christmas song or Its beginning to look alot like Christmas by M Bubble
Sharn: Drinking White Wine in the Sun - Tim Minchin
